Easter 2023: Stephan Baptiste's "La Ruche"

Posted in News on Friday, March 10, 2023 by The Beachcomber Correspondent

Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury's pastry chef, Stephan Baptiste pays tribute to nature with his new creation, "La Ruche" (The Beehive). With Easter around the corner Chef Baptiste has introduced a unique beehive-shaped *trompe l’oeil  creation, a tribute to nature that unites gastronomic pleasure and environmental awareness. This is a nod to the Group’s commitments and to the bees that have settled on the Royal Palm Beachcomber premises.

For many years now, thousands of bees have called the hotel home. The project was initiated under the impetus of the Group's endeavours to protect the environment. The bee colony produces a delicate honey which is served to the hotel’s guests daily. This has inspired Baptiste to create a unique piece made entirely of chocolate, including the queen bee. The beehive resting gently on its base was made from 72% dark Menakao chocolate from Madagascar, an intense chocolate with an acidic twist which is sweet enough to enhance the deep cocoa aroma and notes of red fruit. An ivory white chocolate eggshell with delicious notes of Mauritian vanilla completes the illusion of a beehive. Hints of honey blend perfectly into his creation.

* Trompe-l'oeil: an artistic term for a realistic optical illusion of three-dimensional space and objects on a two-dimensional surface.Â
