The Vodacom Bulls have outclassed the Toyota Cheetahs on Sunday 19 June in a sweltering all-South African finale to a truly exciting second edition of the Beachcomber World Club 10s.
The Pretoria-based franchise beat the Toyota Cheetahs 26-7 at the Anjalay Coopen Stadium in Mauritius to take home the trophy for this prestigious international event featuring eight world-class teams. “We had a good team vibe all week and we wanted to use this tournament as a team building exercise as we look ahead to the Currie Cup,” Bulls captain, Boom Prinsloo said.
“This is also a great tournament from the excellent Beachcomber Hotels where we have been staying to the wonderful organisation behind the scenes. Thanks to everyone in Mauritius for hosting us,” he added. The players were hosted by the Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa, the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa and the Mauricia Beachcomber Resort & Spa.
This week-long rugby festival with Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels as Title Sponsor was organised by Carinat Sports Marketing and sanctioned by World Rugby, Rugby Afrique and Rugby Union Mauritius. The event, which culminated in a brilliant 10-a-side pro tournament over the weekend, included a number of off-pitch activities. The players, among others, had the opportunity to join in for a golf tournament on Wednesday 14 June at the Paradis Golf Club and enjoyed some Beach Rugby at Victoria Beachcomber the following day. Some of them also paid a visit to local schoolchildren on Friday 16 June.
“Congratulations to the Vodacom Bulls for this well-deserved victory. A big hand to the organisers, sponsors, players and rugby fans who have all contributed to make the Beachcomber World Club 10s an overwhelming success. The wide international media coverage received by the event has also provided valuable exposure for our destination and tourism industry,” said Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels’ CEO, Gilbert Espitalier-Noël, after the high-quality final which brought the curtain down on a tournament that is sure to grow in stature in the coming years.
Looking forward to next year’s edition !
